A Bangladeshi national, Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, who had illegally entered India and changed his name to Bijoy Das, was arrested in connection with the attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan. The attack occurred on January 16th in Khan's apartment in Mumbai. Shehzad entered Khan's apartment through a bathroom window and demanded Rs. 1 crore from a nanny. When Khan arrived, he was stabbed in the back by Shehzad. Police are investigating the possibility of an international conspiracy behind the attack.
The Mumbai police are planning to regulate the entry and exit of visitors at Galaxy Apartments, the residence of Bollywood actor Salman Khan in Bandra, following incidents of trespassing on the premises. The actor, who has received threats from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, has already been provided Y-plus security cover. Tahawwur Hussain Rana, a Pakistani-born Canadian national accused of playing a role in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, has been extradited from the United States to India. Rana was arrested in the US in 2009 and convicted in 2011 for providing material support to the Lashkar-e-Taiba terror group, which carried out the Mumbai attacks. He had been fighting extradition since 2012, but the US Supreme Court ultimately denied his review petition, paving the way for his transfer to India.
